Metal Max Xeno first trailer, details, and screenshots
Kadokawa Games has released the first trailer, information, and screenshots of Metal Max Xeno, its newly announced PlayStation 4 and PS Vita entry in the long-running Metal Max RPG series.
Get the details below.
■ About Metal Max Xeno
Since the release of the original Metal Max for Super Famicom in 1992, the Metal Max series has won praise as a unique RPG set in a “devastated near future” different from the “worlds of swords and magic” featured in traditional RPGs.
Metal Max Xeno is “another Metal Max” with a new history and setting. The series’ historical setting has been rebuilt based on future predictions proposed by the latest science, including “technological singularity.”
The setting is 209X, the “true end of the century.” In “Death Tokio,” a wasteland of death in which mankind’s destruction draws near, the story of the protagonist Talis, who swears revenge against superdreadnought monster, and steel partners known as “Tanks” will unfold.
■ A Tank and Human True End of Century RPG
The “Tank” is an essential partner to survive in a world where dangerous monsters wander about. By acquiring, strengthening, and modding tanks, the humans that remain can fight against their cruel fate.
—Bunker Buggy
—Multi-Legged Tank
R-Wolf
The iconic tank of the Metal Max series, which has appeared since the original Metal Max in 1992. It is a bright red tank made in the image of the Merkava mkII.
In the original Metal Max, it appeared as the partner tank of the Red Wolf, “the strongest monster and hunter” feared by villains as the “Red Demon.” Succeeding the Red Wolf after his untimely downfall, the protagonist himself becomes the second generation “Red Demon.” That was the backstory of the original Metal Max, and the R-Wolf tank itself is a special existence that symbolizes the story.
In Metal Max Xeno, continuing from previous titles, the R-Wolf is a tank equipped with asymmetrical turrets designed by Atsuji Yamamoto. Its nickname is “Red Avenger.”
■ New Feature #1: “Shooting”
Shooting is a feature that enables preemptive attacks on monsters that appear on the field. By shooting on the field, you can bring down enemies with a single blow, or start battles against strong enemies with a preemptive strike.
■ New Feature #2: “ET Shield”
The ET Shield is a system that protects the tank by deploying the tank’s remaining energy as a shield. If you lose all of your shields during battle, each part of the tank will take direct damage, causing a risk of breakage.

God Wars: Future Past DLC ‘Labyrinth of Yomi’ first details, screenshots
Kadokawa Games has released the first information and screenshots of its newly announced God Wars: Future Past large-scale DLC, “Labyrinth of Yomi.”
Due out this winter in Japan, the downloadable content will add an “extra large” dungeon loaded with various elements, including 50 stages that exceeds the volume of the main story, super difficult stages with a recommended level of 70 or higher, a multi-ending story where the outcome changes depending on the player’s choices, Momotaro and his companions as playable characters, and more.
Get the details below.
■ A Total of 50 Stages! An “Extra Large” Dungeon That Exceeds the Volume of the Main Story
The setting of this downloadable content is the underground dungeon “Labyrinth of Yomi,” a place where the dead go to rest deep in the mountains of Izumo. In addition to 50 stages that exceed the volume of the main story, an “Average / Good / Excellent” evaluation system based on the amount of damage dealt and number of turns taken per map is also being prepared. This is downloadable content of overwhelming volume that requires no less than 100 hours to play through everything.

—“Labyrinth of Yomi” image board.
■ Recommended Level: 70 to 199! Powered-Up Bosses Await Kaguya and Company
In this downloadable content, the maximum level of characters and some skills have been unlocked. By training beyond the previous limit, you can significantly develop the characters that did not play a major role in the main story. Naturally, the strength of enemies are also in a different league. Bosses bestowed with the power of Yomi to become even more brutal will stop at nothing to attack Kaguya and company.
—Battles that surpass the limit of the main story will unfold in this downloadable content.
—The menu screen. The maximum level has been unlocked for some skills.
■ Hyuga Hero Momotaro and his Crew are Finally Playable
Momotaro, the first prince of Hyuga and Kaguya and Okuninushi’s rival, will be playable. Momotaro’s unique job, “Kijin (Fierce God),” is a vanguard job with skills that increase attack power to the extent that Impurity increases. Hit the boss with fierce attacks while taking in the attacks of enemies on the front line—this is the type of role the Kishi (Fierce God) job will play. Other than Momotaro, his companions Inu, Saru, and Kiji are also playable.

—The story of Momotaro’s companions Inu, Saru, and Kiji is also depicted.
■ A Multi-Ending Story that Delves into the Heroes’ Pasts
In this downloadable content, Kaguya’s past is told along the way to Yomi, where Tsukuyomi and Susanoo lie at rest. The hidden feelings of the heroes little said in the main story will become clear, such as Kaguya and Kintaro’s encounter, Susanoo and Okuninushi’s parent-child conflict, and “a certain incident” where Momotaro comes to seek strength as a king. Furthermore, through the use of a multi-ending system, you can enjoy three types of endings that change based on the player’s choices and method of capture.
—A young Momotaro and Iwanaga. What is their past?
Other than “this winter,” a release date and price for “Labyrinth of Yomi” have yet to be announced. Currently, a release has only been confirmed for Japan.
God Wars: Future Past is available now worldwide for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita.
Metal Max Xeno details Po-M, D’Annunzio, and Jingorou, ‘Remains’ dungeons, more
Kadokawa Games has released new information and screenshots on Metal Max Xeno detailing new characters Po-M, D’Annunzio, and Jingorou, dungeons called “Remains,” and more.
Get the details below.
■ Iron Base
Once a healthy sea called the “Tokyo Bay,” it too was affected by the “Great Destruction.” Today, as it continues to be desertified, it is changing into the “Tokyo Desert.” Within the Tokyo Desert is the “Iron Base,” a mysterious building that gives off an unusual aura, but is the base of operations for the protagonist and company. The facility is a scientific fortress built to serve human science in order to overthrow NOA, and its power and equipment use the most advanced technology capable of semi-permanent action. Since its defense army was destroyed in its trial operation phase, the Iron Base became isolated. Military officials have since forbade civilian entry, and the people within the base live quietly and secluded.
■ Characters
Po-M (voiced by Rika Tachibana)
Gender: Female-type Android
A female-type android deployed for testing purposes at the Iron Base. Her official name is “Post Human Modified Class M,” or “Po-M” for short. She watches over Talis and company during their adventure, and also provides advice through telecommunication.
D’Annunzio (voiced by Gou Shinohara)
Gender: Male
A former soldier who was part of the defense squad during the Tokyo Counteroffensive. He knows about various things in detail, speaks in a feminine tone, and works the counter at a bar-like facility at the Iron Base.
Jingorou (voiced by Jin Urayama)
Gender: Male
A member of the maintenance team who loves tanks from the bottom of his heart and, like D’Annunzio, spends his time leading a secluded life. Among other things, it seems that he likes the R-Wolf piloted by Talis quite a lot. His tank maintenance skills are the best in the world. He also trained Yokky, who was taken in to the Iron Base as a war orphan, in the arts of repairing and maintenance.
■ Death Tokio Bay Area: “Tokyo Desert”
In the Tokyo Desert, there are several refugee camps outside of the “Iron Town” attached to the Iron Base, but shortly before Talis arrives at the Iron Base, it would seem that it was being destroyed by a large-scale attack the new-type violent monsters SoNS.
■ The Monsters That Live in Tokyo Desert, The Starting Area
When stepping outside the Iron Base, a dangerous field expands where monsters run rampant. If you carelessly forget to drive a tank (vehicle) and are suddenly attacked by a monster, you’ll end up in a sticky situation.
—Red Swan: A “Named” monster. They wander about the outskirts of the Iron Base. A sand-shark variant, its body color is a blood-like crimson.
—Unmanned Tank: A tank-type monster characterized by its three main cannons lined up vertically. It is a completely autonomous and unmanned tank.
—Desert Hopper: An autonomously moving cannon. It jumps along the desert sand like a water strider walking atop the water.
■ No Tanks. Challenge the “Remains” with Your Own Being
The “Remains,” dungeons where valuable relics and items lie dormant, cannot be entered with a tank. In order to confront monsters with your own being, you must make sure your weapons and equipment are well-suited to the challenge.
—Kill Machine: Unmanned robots developed by the military to fight on the battlefield in place of human soldiers. They were hijacked by NOA and turned into murder machines that kill mankind.
—Murder Amoeba: Proterozoic life forms mutated into huge monsters due to contamination. They inhabit the dungeons. If you can get the poison out, they apparently make a great source of protein.
■ Ending Theme Song
The ending theme song, “Aube,” will be sung by theater-style pop unit ELFI.
Metal Max Xeno is due out for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan in spring 2018.
