New Neptunia project, original title with different taste from usual Compile Heart in production
The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation has an interview with Compile Heart president Norihisa Kochiwa, who shares new information about what’s to come from the developer.
Here are the tidbits:
Future developments are focused on PlayStation 4, but we want to develop without neglecting user requests, mobile games included.
A new Neptunia project that will 1,000-percent exceed everyone’s imaginations is in motion. It won’t betray your expectations!
LINE Stamps are in production.
An original title is also in production. It is a new title with a different taste from the usual Compile Heart. It is a somewhat different RPG with sorrowful music and legacy-feeling visuals.
We also want to introduce an app that makes Osamu Tezuka characters into heroines as soon as possible.
Our company recruits year-round, and if you are talented and knowledgable, but lack experience, we will employ you. It is a system that enables you to join the development line and learn as soon as you enter the company, even though you’re in training.

Death end re;Quest details Enigma-kun, Real World Parts
Compile Heart has updated the official Japanese website for Death end re;Quest with new information about new character Enigma-kun and the game’s Real World Parts.
Get the details below.
■ Characters
Engima-kun
Enigma-kun is the mascot character of the game company Enigma, where the protagonist Arata Mizunashi is employed. In the world of “World’s Odyssey,” he was created as a police officer controlled by an administrator from outside the game to deal with difficult players and those who perform dangerous actions. After the story begins, Arata accesses the game world from the real world, but uses Engima-kun to communicate with Shina and company. Engima-kun himself is an administrative communications character, so he cannot participate in battle.
■ System
◆ Real World Parts

As you explore the game world, you can switch to the real world at any time from the menu. By doing so, you will arrive at a computer-like screen. In the real world, the main objective is to solve the mysteries that occur in the game world. Protagonist Arata Mizunashi will explore Sagami City—the setting of the story—to progress the story. There will be scenes where you will have to solve the mystery that has occurred in order to open new paths in the game world, so progress the story and solve its many mysteries.
You can perform the following five actions in the real world:
—Talk
Talk to nearby characters. In order to solve the various mysteries that occur, talk with your allies at the base.
—Back Log
Check the contents of your conversations so far.
—Key Item
Check the “Real Objects” discovered in the game world. Information concerning Real Objects will be updated as you progress the story and discover clues.
—Code

Compile Heart has released new information, screenshots, and video of Death end re;Quest, its upcoming PlayStation 4 RPG set in an online game corroded by bugs.
The new video, dubbed “Save the Enigma Company! Death end re;Quest Pre-Order Campaign,” introduces the in-game developer Enigma Games, which created the virtual reality MMORPG “World’s Odyssey” in which the game is set. In the game’s story, the director of “World’s Odyssey” suddenly disappeared and the project came to a halt. Now faced with a shortage of funds, the company is on the verge of bankruptcy. However… (here’s where the pre-order campaign speak comes in) a new RPG project called Death end re;Quest was brought in from a certain publisher, and if it does well, Enigma Games will be saved.
The pre-order campaign runs from November 27 to January 31. Here are the ranks, which we assume are based on pre-order numbers:
Rank D: Big Deficit – Bonus: None
Rank C: Deficit Reducing – Bonus: PC wallpaper
Rank B: Somewhat of a Deficit, Still Doesn’t Want to Die – Bonus: PC Wallpaper + Item Set DLC
Rank A: Recoup Surplus, Managed to Survive – Bonus: PC Wallpaper + Item Set DLC + PS4 Theme
Rank S: Big Surplus, Death end Completely Avoided – Bonus: PC Wallpaper+ Item Set DLC + PS4 Theme + Swimsuit Costume DLC
Rank SS: Super Surplus, Project a Huge Success!! – Bonus: PC Wallpaper+ Item Set DLC + PS4 Theme + Swimsuit Costume DLC + Compile Heart to Release the Virtual Reality MMORPG “World’s Odyssey”
(Editor’s Note regarding Rank SS: Your guess is as good as mine as to whether that means Compile Heart really plans to release “World’s Odyssey” as its own, separate game.)
Here are the new game details:
■ Story
◆ Tips
House of Beginnings
The place where Shina awakens at the beginning of the story. It is a small house on the outskirts of Heartis where Shina awakens and loses her prior memories. Although the scenery outside of the house is peaceful, if you look up to the sky, the sky has split as if a giant hole had opened, possibly caused by bugs.
Heartis Royal Palace
The palace where the royal family of Heartis, the greatest nation in the world of “World’s Odyssey,” lives. Even after it was corroded by bugs, it luxury and glamour remains preserved. However, there does not seem to be any people remaining within the royal palace, and with the Martyrs becoming rampant, there are some who were originally Heartis soldiers, but were transformed and have come to attack. Lily Hopes is the princess of Heartis, and seemingly lived in this royal palace, but it appears that it cannot be said that she was very happy.
Strufil Royal Shipyard
A shipyard located in the ocean nation Strufil. Built on the coast, it is a large-scale facility that docks many ships. Before the world was corroded by bugs, the shipyard was overflowing with energy and many workers worked here, but now there is nobody here and the shipyard has an ominous appearance. While it is a shipyard, the facility also has various functionalities, and new paths may open by making skillful use of them.
Rhizaria Forest
A forest where the elves live. The forest was made to make those who visit lose their way, as the elves who oppose other races live deep within the forest. For that reason, it is difficult to reach the elf settlement unless you are an elf. At the center of the forest is a giant tree that is the source of their magical power. And within the forest are the remains of a legacy inherited by the elves from ancient times that operates with magical power. This legacy exists in various locations all over the world and is rumored to be related to the “Sky City” that adventurers aim to reach, and is also Shina and company’s final objective.

Death end re;Quest will launch for PlayStation 4 in Japan on March 1, 2018 for 7,776 yen at retail and 6,912 yen via download.
Compile Heart has updated the official website for Death end re;Quest with further information on the “Strain Area” first introduced last week.
Get the details below.
■ System
◆ Strain Area
Strain Area
A place that is not supposed to exist.
The Strain Area is a mysterious space where Ludens is located. The countless doors floating within the Strain Area seem to be connected to the game world, and by borrowing the power of Ludens, Shina and company can instantly move between various areas in the game world.
Pain Area
Seek out powerful enemies.
The Pain Area is a dungeon that exists within the Strain Area. This dungeon is divided into several layers, and the further you progress in the game, the deeper you can progress into the dungeon. Powerful monsters lurk within the Pain Area, and a lot of training is required in order to defeat them in battle. Defeating the monsters will yield rare items, so if you are confident enough in battle, be sure to take on the challenge.
Strengthening Summons Bugs and Code Jacks
Obtain even greater strength.
Summons Bugs is a system created in order for protagonist Arata to support Shina and company by recycling the code of Entoma Queens to summon bugs, but Ludens posseses the power to interfere with this program. By exchanging items obtained while exploring dungeons, you can strengthen the abilities of Summons Bugs and Code Jacks to be even greater.

Death end re;Quest details Puzzle and Billiards Install Genres, Bug Actions
Compile Heart has updated the official Japanese website for Death end re;Quest with new information and screenshots on the game’s “Install Genre” system and “Bug Actions.”
Get the details below.
■ System
◆ Battle Jack System
Install Genre
Installs various “genres” into the RPG command battle system that change the rules of battle. For example, by changing the genre to “fighting game,” you can attack enemies that specialize in fighting from the rear head-on from the front. With this unprecedented system, you can drag enemies into rules that give you the upper hand. Furthermore, for each genre, when it comes time to attack and a Summons Bug is on the battlefield, you can activate additional pursuits using the Summons Bug by meeting pre-set conditions.
We previously detailed the Fighting Game, Shooting Game, and Slots genres. Read about those here. Read up on the new Puzzle and Billiards genres below.
—Puzzle
By attacking the enemy to blow them back to the panels that appear on the battlefield, you can erase the panels. You can only blow back the enemy a certain number of times, and you can deal big damage based on the amount of panels erased. However, your attack power will decrease if you erase the yellow panels, so pay attention to the angle of your blow in order to clear the puzzle.
—Billiards
Eight pockets will appear on the battlefield. By blowing back the enemy into one of the pockets, you can deal big damage. By skillfully aiming while utilizing other enemies and walls, you can also sink a number of enemies in a particular location into a pocket.
◆ Dungeon Exploration
Bug Actions
If the bodies of the characters that appear in the game world are infested by the insect-like bugs known as “Entoma,” they will become bugged. By skillfully utilizing this, Shina and company can each make use of unique traits known as “Bug Actions” to progress through dungeons. And since there are places in dungeons where you can only progress by using Bug Actions, do not give up even if you find a place that appears unreachable. You can get hints from things like the layout of the location, so choose the appropriate character and activate their Bug Action to progress. (Bug Actions can only be used at certain points.)

Compile Heart has released a new, three-minute trailer for Death end re;Quest.
The trailer includes an explanation of the game’s battle system, and introduction of the game’s characters an systems, including Install Genre and Bug Actions.
The official website was also updated with two new story bits:
■ Story
◆ Tips
White Rabbit
Virtual reality goggles created to play games that use the Alice Code engine. Since the player’s consciousness is projected into the game world via brain waves sent through the White Rabbit, a monitor is not required.
The Alice Code game engine associates the idea of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland from the sensation when consciousness is transferred, and the virtual reality goggles gets its name from the rabbit guide who brings Alice to Wonderland.
Ending Logout
While “World’s Odyssey” is an MMORPG, it does have an “ending.” When the last boss known as the “Divine Beast” is defeated, the game will end, but when this ending occurs, the player will automatically logout and return to the real world. This was implemented just before the development of “World’s Odyssey” was ceased, and only a few people know about the specification.
As the sole method for Shina and company to return to the real world in the main story, they must work to clear the bug-eroded world of “World’s Odyssey.”
