Total sales of Switch hardware in Japan have surpassed five million units as of September 2 with a total of 5,007,368 units sold since its March 3, 2017 launch, according to Famitsu sales data.
The platform’s top five selling games in Japan (also as of September 2) are as follows:
• Splatoon 2 (07/21/17, Nintendo) – 2,621,928 units sold
• Super Mario Odyssey (10/27/17, Nintendo) – 1,788,228 units sold
• Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (04/28/17, Nintendo) – 1,738,502 units sold
• The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo, 03/03/17) – 1,065,780 units sold
• Kirby: Star Allies (Nintendo, 03/16/18) – 591,721 units sold
Nintendo will host a 35-minute Nintendo Direct presentation “mainly focused on upcoming Switch and 3DS titles on Thursday, September 6 at 3:00 p.m. PT / 6:00 p.m. ET / 23:00 BST, the company announced.
Nintendo has delayed today’s Nintendo Direct due to the powerful earthquake that struck Hokkaido today.
“Due to the powerful earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan, we have decided to delay this week’s planned Nintendo Direct,” Nintendo said in a tweet. “We will provide a new time and date in the near future. Thank you for your understanding.”
Surgeon Simulator CPR wll launch for Switch via the Nintendo eShop on September 13, developer Bossa Studios announced. Pre-orders are available now with a 10 percent discount.

Users will be able to sign-up for a seven-day free trial via the Nintendo eShop at launch.
Delayed Nintendo Direct rescheduled for September 13
Nintendo will host the Nintendo Direct delayed from its original September 6 air date on September 13 at 3:00 p.m. PT / 6:00 p.m. ET / 23:00 BST, the company announced. It will run for 35 minutes and focus on upcoming Switch and 3DS games, as originally planned.
Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix overview trailer
Rideon has released an overview trailer for Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix ahead of its September 27 release for Switch in Japan.
A PlayStation 4 version is also due out in Japan this fall. In the west, publisher Circle Entertainment has confirmed a release on Switch, but has not announced the PlayStation 4 version.
Switch system update version 6.0.0 will launch on September 18 at 5:00 p.m. PT / 8:00 p.m. ET, Nintendo announced.
It should be noted that after installing the update, you will no longer be able to unlink your Nintendo Account from your Switch user account.
After the update is launched, the Nintendo eShop will be under maintenance until 8:00 p.m. PT / 11:00 p.m. ET.
After the maintenance is complete, Nintendo Switch Online memberships will be available for purchase. Switch owners will not automatically become members when the service starts, so a membership needs to be purchased in order to avoid disruption of online play.
