Budapest-based developer NeocoreGames has announced Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr; an action-RPG it’s building in collaboration with Warhammer 40,000 creator Games Workshop.
NeocoreGames describes Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr as a “persistent sandbox action-RPG” and explains that the single-player campaign will thrust players “into a grim and secret war among the stars as the agents of the ever-vigilant Inquisition.” NeocoreGames also promises that, after the campaign concludes, the story will continue “in a colossal sandbox game” that the developer claims will give players “years of constant entertainment, gradual development and a continuous flow of content that enriches the action-RPG gameplay.”
“There’s a reason why we chose the world of Warhammer 40,000: it’s intense, brutal, visceral – a perfect material for an action RPG,” said producer Zoltán Pozsonyi in a statement. “Working with Games Workshop, we’re doing our best to bring a high quality game to the community. We’re huge fans as well, so we care deeply about this game.”
Hungarian studio NeocoreGames, founded in 2005, has developed several other RPGs, including King Arthur and The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing.
The announcement itself doesn’t linger on any real specifics so we don’t know a great deal else about Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr at this stage. It’s due out in 2016 for PC, Mac, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
NeocoreGames has launched a new monthly video series, called Inquisitorial Log to gradually unveil the most important features of Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr.
The first trailer in our feature video series is all about destruction. In the grim future there is only WAR and in Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr our goal is to faithfully evoke the atmosphere of the violent 41st millennium; environmental destruction plays a very important role in that. As the players tear chunks out of walls with their kinetic weapons or simply vaporize whole sections of the area, it will make them feel like they’re fighting a real war.
Of course destruction is not only a cosmetic feature. The covers that the players and the enemies can both use are also destructible, which adds another tactical layer to the Action-RPG gameplay. Covers provide a more realistic approach to close range, visceral firefights and both the players and the creatures can effectively employ these positions to mitigate incoming damage.

NeocoreGames has released the second video in its Inquisitorial Log video series that gradually unveils the most important features of Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr.
The Inquisitorial Log #2 is all about Blood and Gore. Our goal is to develop the world's very first Warhammer 40,000 Action RPG that is not only the true next step in the evolution of the genre, but puts the players in the middle of the never-ending war in the violent 41st Millennium. In order to evoke the authentic atmosphere of this unforgiving universe we created a brutal combat system where players can vaporize, explode and dismember their enemies, do spectacular finishing moves and even use the destructible environment against them.
