Following its positive reception from press and players, the centuries-old goblin assassin Styx returns in a new stealth game, Styx: Shards of Darkness, with a bigger budget, bigger ideas, and a new engine: Unreal 4.
Master of Shadows was a valiant exploration into the world of the green goblin thief, but Shards of Darkness will delve deeper into a complex narrative and fully realized world. Following the fall of Akenash tower, an extraordinary matter has forced Styx out of hiding to infiltrate Korrangar, the city of the Dark Elves. Supposedly impregnable, a diplomatic summit offers Styx a chance at slipping in unnoticed, as he learns that the event is nothing but a mere façade... Embark upon a stealthy adventure with new enemies, new environments, and a plethora of new mechanics aimed at refining the abilities and movement of Styx ; grappling around corners, climbing ropes, and using his trusty knife as a zip-wire. Shards of Darkness aims to offer unparalleled freedom of movement, along with refined stealth and assassination mechanics, expanding and improving on the strengths of Styx: Master of Shadows.
Styx: Shards of Darkness will be available begining of 2017 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
World of Darkness Based 'Werewolf: The Apocalypse' Game in Development at Cyanide
Cyanide
Focus Home Interactive partners up with White Wolf for the video game adaptation of Werewolf: The Apocalypse set in the World of Darkness.
Paris-based video game publisher Focus Home Interactive is pleased to announce its partnership with White Wolf Publishing, license owner of the famous World of Darkness universe (Vampire The Masquerade, Werewolf, Mage Ascension).
The World of Darkness is a gritty vision of our own time. The world’s most devious conspiracies are true. The divide between the rich and the poor is huge and corruption is rife. In the shadows of our declining societies, humans fall victim to supernatural horrors, all struggling for control.
The partnership between Focus Home Interactive and White Wolf Publishing concerns the adaptation in a video game of one of the most acclaimed licenses from the World of Darkness - Werewolf: The Apocalypse. The game will be developed by studio Cyanide (Styx: Master of Shadows, Blood Bowl, Call of Cthulhu). Become a werewolf, known as Garou (from French "Loup-garou" meaning werewolf), immersed in the atmosphere of their shamanistic and tribal world. Garou are Werewolf warriors opposed to urban civilization and supernatural corruption, all heading towards inevitable apocalypse.
“The World of Darkness has always attracted creatives with a strong passion for telling dark and immersive stories. So to work closely with the great talent at Focus Home and Cyanide exploring the savage Werewolves of this universe is an absolutely fantastic experience for us at White Wolf and we are more than excited to see this great and highly relevant IP realized in a video game”, says Tobias Sjögren, CEO of White Wolf.
“We are pleased to partner with White Wolf to bring Werewolf: The Apocalypse to life in a video game for consoles and PC. We are excited to work on the World of Darkness universe, as this is formidable playground to tell the players a great story. We are also happy to partner with Cyanide Studio in this adventure – they are behind the original wish to adapt this universe, and we are faithful in their ability to create a game that will please both fans of World of Darkness and newcomers”, says Cédric Lagarrigue, President of Focus Home Interactive.
More info about this new adaptation of this brutal Werewolf mythology to come at this year’s event in Paris, “le What’s Next de Focus”, on February 1st and 2nd.
Focus Home Interactive and Spiders reveal in video their new RPG: GreedFall
GreedFall is the latest RPG from Spiders, currently in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Revealed at "le What's Next de Focus" event last week, GreedFall today unveil a first teaser trailer, hinting at the 17th century setting of the game and its ambiance embedded in magic. As showcased in this video, Greedfall aims for a very unique visual identity, inspired by Baroque art from 17th Century Europe, depicting grandiose sceneries in muted warm colors and dark undertones.
Explore a fresh new world as you set foot - alongside many other settlers, mercenaries and treasure hunters - on a remote island seeping with magic, rumored to be filled with riches and lost secrets. A grand journey filled with mystery follows, as you find yourself in the middle of ever-increasing tensions between the invading settlers and the locals, protected by supernatural beings, manifestation of the island's earthly magic.
With a strong focus on its core RPG identity, GreedFall follows Spiders' experience in building intricate worlds filled with mysteries to discover, weaving deep character interactions, and offering players great freedom to achieve quests and objectives in a multitude of different ways - through combat of course, but also through diplomacy, deception or stealth. The island of GreedFall is a living, ever-evolving world. Your actions, from seemingly trivial choices to the most important political decisions, will influence and affect its course as well as the relationship between the different factions established on the island.
"With GreedFall, Spiders is happy to renew its collaboration with Focus Home Interactive, our publisher for many years. The relationship of trust and transparency we have been developing together makes us particularly confident about the creation of this new project, more ambitious than all our past productions. Few publishers have the ability to support totally distinctive games like GreedFall and this secures us in our belief that we will manage with Focus Home Interactive to make this experience in a brand new universe both unique and unforgettable", says Jehanne Rousseau, CEO of Spiders.
"We are happy to once again support the studio, directed by Jehanne Rousseau, in a new collaboration. If Spiders' titles could have divided gamers in the past, they are gathering a bigger and bigger audience that enjoys the studios approach to the role-playing genre, allowing Spiders to improve game after game. Through this new collaboration, the studio will have more means to fully achieve its ambition. Thanks to its theme, its universe and its promise, Spiders' GreedFall will be a game to closely follow, for RPG lovers", says Cédric Lagarrigue, President of Focus Home Interactive.
GreedFall is planned for release in 2018. We will reveal more about the game the weeks and months to come.
Styx: Shards of Darkness – Developer Cyanide explain the Making of a Goblin in video
Cyanide Studio, developers of Styx: Shards of Darkness, today share in video how they envisioned and gave life, personality and soul to the main lead of their game, the witty goblin Styx.
More ambitious than its predecessor in every department, Shards of Darkness takes our nimble thief out of the shadows of Akenash and into a bigger world with more skills, a greater bestiary, and more intricate, vertical level design. Shards of Darkness benefits from a larger production and better realization, with a story supplemented by cutscenes in which Styx expresses his trademark wit and snark - get a sneak peek at his sarcastic, fourth wall breaking humor in this video!
You’ll learn why Styx is not the kind of character you're used to playing, and how his wits outweigh his weaknesses. As a goblin, direct confrontation is the best way to kick the bucket, so you’ll have to study your environment to find the best approach and tools to overcome your enemies.
Discover how this “ugly little green character” adapts to your playstyle, as “you can be the guy that goes in and out through the level getting every item, or the sneaky one who never raises any alarm.” Take advantage of Styx’s acrobatic prowess and rain down from above, or use your tools and abilities to totally avoid detection – it’s entirely up to you. No matter how you play, he’ll be there for the entire journey, criticizing not only the player, but his creators too!
Styx: Shards of Darkness comes March 14th, 2017 to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC! You can preorder the game now on Steam to get exclusive access to the Akenash set, donning the outfit and dagger from Styx's first adventure.
Styx: Shards of Darkness – Cooperative assassination revealed in new trailer
Styx: Shards of Darkness, Cyanide Studio’s new Stealth game, arrives March 14th to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Today's new trailer showcases how you and a friend can sneak your way through the game together, jumping, climbing, hiding, joking and killing together thanks to the game’s drop-in/drop-out coop mode.
At any time during your adventure, you are able to invite a friend to join your current session to sneak around with you for an alternative stealth experience. Two players opens up many more opportunities for clearing a level and reaching the objectives, but also doubles the risk of being spotted. Assassination partners must co-ordinate carefully in order to succeed!
Work together to create elaborate distractions, unleash dastardly synchronized assassinations, and run circles around larger enemies - every level and mission is playable in coop and will open a new array of gameplay possibilities.
Styx: Shards of Darkness comes March 14th, 2017 to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can preorder the game now at participating retailers and get bonus DLC.
Styx: Shards of Darkness unveils Launch Trailer before its release next week
Styx: Shards of Darkness, the Stealth game from Cyanide Studio, releases Tuesday March 14 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC! Players will take control of agile goblin thief Styx, as he assassinates, sneaks and snarks his way across an immense, dark fantasy world filled with deadly secrets and enemies. Watch the game’s lively launch trailer for a taste of Styx’s abilities, quick acrobatics, and even quicker tongue!
Styx’s latest adventure sees him making an unexpected deal with a mysterious human officer named Helledryn – and she’s got a job with far higher stakes than anything he’s tackled before. He must steal an ambassador’s scepter, which has attracted the interest of several nefarious (and goblin-hating) parties. As a reward for completing this dangerous mission, he’s promised a mountain of magical Amber, the source of Styx’s power and a substance he’s hopelessly addicted to. Of course, it’s not long until our green-skinned thief is stuck in a web of intrigue and assassination!
Master the verticality and non-linearity of Styx: Shards of Darkness’ open environments with an array of tools and abilities. Struggling to bypass a heavily guarded entrance? Scout the path ahead using your amber vision, distract the guards with a controllable goblin clone, then emerge from temporary invisibility to stab them in the back! Styx will always have a wide range of dastardly creative methods for completing his objectives – and if you join a friend in the drop-in coop, you’ll discover even more ways to unleash chaos!
Styx: Shards of Darkness releases Tuesday March 14 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Preorder the game now from participating stores, and get exclusive access to the Akenash set, donning the outfit and dagger from Styx's first adventure.
