Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War Announced
A brand-new 4X Warhammer 40,000 gaming experience
Slitherine and Games Workshop renew their relationship to offer a fresh approach to the Warhammer 40,000 universe – Planetary 4X.
Warhammer 40,000: Gladius incorporates the dark, gothic, far future science-fantasy setting in ways never tried before. A brand new, deep storyline has been created to combine elements of 4X gameplay with a combat-focused system. The evolution of technology, construction of infrastructures and exploration of an unknown world, goes hand in hand with the management of military resources, including heroes with special abilities and mighty war machines.
Warhammer 40,000: Gladius has been designed to give four totally different gameplay experiences, depending on which factions players choose. Space Marines, Astra Militarum (aka Imperial Guard), Orks and Necrons each have dramatically different characteristics, both in how they develop and expand and in the way they interact with allies and enemies. This gives the game virtually endless replay value and players the chance to play out the same experience in totally divergent ways.
In Warhammer 40,000: Gladius there is also a massive difference between playing solo or in multiplayer. The deep storyline was created from scratch to allow players to explore an entire world and lead the expansion of an empire from the ground up. The discovery of ancient artefacts and the custom-crafted quests will reveal the secrets of the planet and its mysterious history as the story progresses.
The real-time multiplayer system lets players build their own path to victory while fighting against live opponents, time and the natural perils that Gladius hides.

The Astronauts has announced Witchfire, a dark fantasy first-person shooter in development for PC.
Here is an overview of the game, via The Astronauts:
Have you been wondering what we’ve been up to lately? Well, the new game we’re working on is called Witchfire. It’s a dark fantasy first person shooter… and that’s all we can say at the moment. The game is still a long way from release and we are not announcing any other platforms than PC/Steam. The reason we’re launching the teaser so early is simply to let everyone know that we’re alive and kicking, and how radically different this new project of ours is compared to our previous game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
That change in direction isn’t anything new for the core team, though. The three co-owners of The Astronauts were also the co-owners of People Can Fly, as well as the creative leads behind shooters like Painkiller and Bulletstorm. While Witchfire is also a shooter, we’re aiming to make a game unlike anything we have done in the past, both in tone and in game mechanics.
As you can see in the teaser, Witchfire uses the photogrammetry tech we previously used in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. This tech allows us to 3D scan real-life objects – even entire buildings! – and use them as digital assets in our games for unparalleled visual quality, and natural, organic look and feel. We believe we can push the tech even further, with new tools, hardware, and all the experience we gathered during the development of our first game and can’t wait to bring you along on the ride with us!

A Launch Date is Served! Zwei: The Arges Adventure to Release for PC on January 24
XSEED Games, the independent-minded publishing brand of Marvelous USA, today announced that Zwei: The Arges Adventure, the original entry in the Zwei series from acclaimed developer Nihon Falcom and stand-alone predecessor to Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection, will launch for Windows PC via Steam, GOG, and The Humble Store by Humble Bundle on Wednesday, January 24. To celebrate this launch, the title will receive a limited-time 10% launch discount from its regular selling price of $19.99.
Originally released as Zwei!! in Japan, Zwei: The Arges Adventure stands as the most feature-complete version of the game to date, reintegrating a heaping helping of PC-exclusive features that were lost in the Japanese console versions including an Ys-themed typing tutor mini-game, a challenging block puzzler mini-game, and the “Pet Monitor” virtual pet system, along with a wide variety of unlockables plus some all-new content. Come set out on an adventure later this month with a whole continent’s worth of quirky and cute anime-style characters who frequently find themselves in comedically over-the-top situations, exploring every inch of the painterly 2D land of Arges along the way!
About Zwei: The Arges Adventure
Set on the mysterious time-forgotten floating continent of Arges, Zwei: The Arges Adventure follows the exploits of socially awkward teenage step-siblings Pokkle and Pipiro as they find their monotonous, ho-hum village life rudely interrupted by a mysterious figure who steals six holy idols from the local shrine. Pokkle, a master craftsman of terrible puns and wannabe hero, and Pipiro, a sarcastic mage-in-training with an obsession for fashion and a penchant for speaking her mind no matter how bad an idea that may be, jump at the chance to track down the masked thief and return the idols to their village – Pokkle for the fame, glory, and opportunities to make more puns, and Pipiro purely for the hefty reward on offer. Their adventures will take them to every corner of the continent, leading them to encounter a wide array of over-the-top friends and foes as they uncover a far more sinister plot to revive an ancient “Demon Lord” and get a very up close and personal lesson on nearly 500 years’ worth of Arges history.
Originally developed and released in Japan by Nihon Falcom on PC and PlayStation Portable, and ported to the PlayStation 2 in Japan by Taito, Zwei: The Arges Adventure is the direct predecessor to Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection and will be the first time this title has been made officially available in the West. Boasting a gorgeous hand-drawn 2D world populated by a diverse cast of allies and enemies who are constantly on the move, Zwei: The Arges Adventure also represents one of the formative examples of Nihon Falcom's now-signature multi-character action RPG combat, enhanced here with smoother and more intuitive gamepad support and a bevy of other optimizations for modern PC systems. This title also features the series’ unique food-based leveling system, giving players more direct control over the game’s difficulty by allowing them to choose how quickly their characters grow in power: will they save food for later so they can exchange it for better food and more level-ups, gorge early on for a more metered experience gain, or fast altogether for a truly hardcore challenge?
Zwei: The Arges Adventure is developed by Nihon Falcom and will be published worldwide for Windows PC by XSEED Games via Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store by Humble Bundle on January 24 with a 10% launch week discount from its regular selling price of $19.99. More information about Zwei: The Arges Adventure will be revealed soon via the newly launched Zwei series portal site at http://www.worldofzwei.com/
