Get your child all set for preschool with our no-tears guide
New Intake 2013. Enroll your child now
Two weeks before :-
Form a habit – Get a timetable from the school and try to settle your child into a similar routine at home. This may mean waking him up at 7 am, allowing him only one nap in the afternoon and making him finish meals in one sitting.
Be a Bookworm – start reading him books about school. That is especially important for first timers who don’t have older siblings, because the concept of school is abstract to them
Love The Uniform – Hang it at a visible place in your child’s room. This helps him get used to the idea of wearing one, and serve as a constant reminder that the school term is starting soon.
Quirks Are Okay – Inform the teachers of your child’s likes and dislikes, allergies and quirks. The more they know about him, the easier it will be to help him settle in. If your child can only be pacified by his favourite Thomas the Tank Engine toy during a tantrum, let them know too.
Pay a visit to our centre during the open day on 6th Oct
One Week Before :-
Have an orientation - Make an appointment to visit the school. let your child walk around, watch other children play, and get acquainted with the environment as well as some of the children and teachers there.
Be enthusiastic - Show confidence and trust in the school; tell him how great the school is, and how fun it will be, The positive attitude is contagious.
The Day Before :-
Bring That Baby Blanket - Involve your child in packing his bag. Follow the check list given by the school
Let Him Pack - A favourite stuffed toy to bring along. Having something from home that is familiar to him brings comfort in a strange environment.
On The Big Day :-
Be Firm - Follow the routine you want to establish and stick to it. Arrive at school at the time you plan to be there for the rest of the term. That's how your child willknow school is going to be part of his everyday life and not something he can give up. If you are not firm, he will kick up a fuss whenever he's not in the mood for school.
Act Friendly - Greet the teachers cheerfully. If you have to discuss anything with her, do it in front of your kid. When he observes that the teachers seems to be Mummy's friends, he will find it easier to trust them.
Your Presence Is Needed - Most school allow parents to stay on the first day to observe from outside the class. Be prepare to take leave from work. You may decide to ease into it slowly ans start your child with with just half a day at school. That's okay too. |
