Celebrate “The Year of the Tomb Raider” with New DLC for Rise of the Tomb Raider

This is “The Year of Tomb Raider”, as 2016 marks 20 years since the first Tomb Raider game. The milestone offered the perfect opportunity to build new content celebrating the impact Lara has made on gaming and the entertainment industry. When we first started planning the new downloadable content for the Rise of the Tomb Raider Season Pass our first thought was of Croft Manor, as it’s such an important part of Lara’s heritage.

Players were able to glimpse Lara’s manor during a cinematic in the main campaign, but will now be able to fully explore Lara’s childhood home as part of the new “Blood Ties” DLC, which features over an hour of new story. In it, Lara must reclaim her legacy and prove that she is the rightful heir in the wake of her father’s death. “Blood Ties” also includes “Lara’s Nightmare” mode in which hordes of the undead overrun her childhood home. Test your zombie-killing skills in this replayable mode, featuring a haunted Croft Manor filled with new challenges as you fight to rid the Manor of an evil presence.

And that’s not all – we’ve expanded “Endurance Mode” to include co-op support that will let you and a friend raid tombs in the harsh wilderness together for the very first time. Two players must team up to survive the harsh elements by day, as well as lethal threats from enemies by night. Fire takes fuel, food restores health, and every resource must be hunted, collected, or crafted. Battle to the top of the leaderboards, as others try to beat your longest survival run. We’ve also added an “Extreme Survivor’ difficulty that will test the most seasoned Tomb Raider players! Checkpoints are confined to basecamps and supplies are limited – only the smart and resourceful will survive. Last but not least, we’ve added five classic Lara Croft skins as well as a reimagined outfit inspired by Tomb Raider III.



All of this content will be added to the Rise of the Tomb Raider Season Pass on October 11 and players who already own Season Pass receive all of the new content for free. The Season Pass also includes the critically acclaimed single player story expansion, “Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch”, as well as “Cold Darkness: Awakened”, where players combat waves of infected predators in the Siberian wilderness.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration gamescom Theater Demo Now Available

Crystal Dynamics today released the Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration gamescom theater demo. In Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara becomes more than a survivor, and embarks on her first Tomb Raiding expedition in search of the secret of immortality. She’ll explore a vast and hostile world, engage in guerilla combat, and discover deadly tombs.

The video showcase begins with the cinematic action of “Thin Ice” from the main campaign, as Lara fights to escape Trinity in a frozen Siberian wasteland. Next is a preview of “Blood Ties”, which will feature over an hour of new single-player story as Lara’s uncle challenges her ownership of Croft Manor. Lara’s determined to prove that she’s the rightful heir and reclaim her legacy, but to do that she must confront the secrets of her past. Finally, there’s a look at the new “Lara’s Nightmare” combat mode, in which Lara must protect her childhood home from hordes of the undead.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration is the most comprehensive version of the award-winning experience, and also includes PlayStation VR support, co-op Endurance mode, an “Extreme Survivor” difficulty mode, 5 classic Lara skins, an outfit and weapon inspired by TR III, and all of the previously released DLC. The game launches on PS4 October 11th, and the new content will be included as part of the Season Pass on Xbox One and PC.

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics Thank Fans with 100,000 In-Game Credits During Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration Launch Week

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics continue to celebrate Lara Croft’s 20-year legacy with a special community promotion for Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration during launch week. Simply by logging in, players will receive a gift of 100,000 in-game credits. This is a thank you to fans who have been with the franchise for days, months, years or even decades, and every platform in every country is included in this promotion. These 100,000 credits can be used to purchase Expedition Card Packs which become modifiers in the extra game modes, including new Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration content such as Co-op Endurance and “Lara’s Nightmare”. 20 years of Tomb Raider continues as Square Enix also debuts the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration Challenge. Inspired by classic game shows from the 80s and 90s and hosted by Jessica Chobot, this event brought together 12 Internet icons as they competed for the Golden Climbing Axe to be crowned the ultimate Tomb Raider, as well as win prize money for their favorite charity!

Contestants included Melonie Mac, Doug Le of Nukem Dukem, Jessica Villarreal, “Atomic” Mari Takahashi, Jake & Logan from team Epiphany, Swiftor, Pamela Horton, Nick Gregorio, Fairlight Excalibur, Peter Paras of GameRevolution, and Malik Forte.

In addition, the new content will be available for Xbox One and PC Season Pass owners. In Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara becomes more than a survivor, and embarks on her first Tomb Raiding expedition in search of the secret of immortality.
