Stranger of Sword City on PS Vita: Battles and Bragging Rights

Hey there, dood! It’s been a bit since I’ve been around these parts, but I’m here to introduce you to an awesome RPG on PS Vita from Japan — Stranger of Sword City — which you’ll be able to dive into on March 22nd, 2016! I even managed to snag some screenshots from our current development build of the game.

After surviving a mysterious plane crash, you wake to an unfamiliar land lit by stars you’ve never seen. This land is Escario, the city of swords. Quickly marked as the Chosen One, the Stranger of Sword City, you must defend this place and choose your allegiances carefully as you scour the land for a way home. And that’s how your adventure begins.

Stranger of Sword City, at its core, is a game about death and the struggle to avoid vanishing forever. Like previous Experience, Inc. titles, you’ll be able to customize your team through a ton of character creation options — everything from their age (which affects how many times they can die before vanishing, and how many stat points they get to allocate) to the RPG mainstays of race (Migmy FTW!), talent, class, and more.

Experience, Inc. has changed up the dungeon crawler formula a bit by incorporating a few cool systems that are sure to keep you elbow-deep in the dungeons of this harrowing Japanese dark fantasy title.

Decisions to be Made

The choices you make in Stranger of Sword City will affect how you play, as allying yourself with different factions will unlock different skills and benefits for your party members. You’ll have to carefully consider if you’ll be throwing your support behind the mysterious Strangers Guild, gambling on the shifty Medell Co. to help you out, or running the straight and narrow with the city’s defenders in the Kingdom.

Each step of the way on your journey will offer risk and reward as you build rapport with each group in order to maximize your chances of surviving and finding your way home.

Then, Out of Nowhere!

Speaking of risk and reward, Stranger of Sword City features a unique Ambush system that will put your life on the line to earn the greatest loot. As the name implies, this system lets you observe your enemies before jumping into battle when the perfect opportunity presents itself.

Using the Ambush system, you’ll have a chance to encounter unique enemies, and get a helpful glimpse at the loot they’re transporting! Careful though, you’ll be vulnerable to enemy ambushes as well if you wait too long in search of the best gear.

You Want a Challenge?

Ever told your brother how awesome the team you built in your game was, only to have him try to one-up you with how fast he cleared the game? No? Hm, well, I certainly have and I hate my brother thinking he’s better than me, so I’m super pumped for the leaderboard system that Experience has added!

It lets you rank and compare yourself against other players across more than 40 categories, including everything from level clear time to party and item strength. So you’ll want to take advantage of that Ambush system if you want to reach the top of the charts.

NIS America to release Grand Kingdom for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita

NIS America today announced that they will be releasing Grand Kingdom in North America and Europe. Grand Kingdom is a brand-new tactical RPG title developed by Spike Chunsoft for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita which will immerse players in the life of a mercenary troop, and allow them to experience tactical and strategic combat in an immersive campaign, as well as online.

“We are very excited to be partnering with NIS America to localize and release Grand Kingdom in the West. Danganronpa has seen great success with NIS America so far, and we are confident that they will also do the best job of bringing the experience we envisioned for Grand Kingdom to fans. We hope that fans all over the world will support us and enjoy this new game as well,” said Spike Chunsoft CEO Mitsutoshi Sakurai.

“We’re very happy to be working with Spike Chunsoft once again,” said NIS America CEO Takuro Yamashita. “Our company was built on tactical and strategy games, such as Disgaea, and it is our goal to create a legacy of fans for Grand Kingdom just as dedicated as those of the Disgaea and Danganronpa series.” NIS America is well known for their highly-acclaimed tactical RPG series, Disgaea, which saw its 14th game, Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, release last year to very positive reviews and brisk sales.

In addition to the announcement, NIS America released a teaser trailer for the title showcasing some of the game’s characters and settings. Hinting at the game’s mercenary life narrative, the trailer opens on a variety of the characters that players will have access to, and gives players a brief glance at each of the nations whose flag they may fight under during their time with this strategy title. Story overview

After the fall of the once-prosperous Uldein Empire over one hundred years ago, the Four Great Nations now wage war to claim dominion over the Resonail continent. Battles are no longer fought by honorable knights loyal to a nation, but by mercenaries who sell their services to the highest bidder.

As the leader of a mercenary squad, the player will lead their troops across a battle-scarred continent, overcoming obstacles and adversaries as they complete quests doled out by each nation. In doing so, they will unravel the mystery behind the downfall of a mighty empire.

With an impressive battle system that combines fast-paced action with strategic planning, and featuring robust character creation and customization options, Grand Kingdom is a Tactical RPG the likes of which has never been seen before. Assemble a squad of mercenaries, form an exclusive contract with one of the Four Great Nations, and participate in war with other players online for the future of Resonail.

But remember- in this new age of war, there is only room for one Grand Kingdom.

Grand Kingdom Launches June 21 in North America, June 17 in Europe





Grand Kingdom Coming to PS4 and PS Vita June 21 (June 17 in Europe)

When my manager told me I had to put down Disgaea 5 to start looking into some new tactical RPG called Grand Kingdom, I told him “No.” Turns out that doesn’t fly (Who knew?).

I sidled over to our localization team and asked for a build of this game on PS4 and PS Vita, and you know what? I haven’t put it down since. Seriously, this game is legit, and it will be out June 21 of this year. Sharpen your pencils, boys and girls, war is coming!

One Man’s Vision

The game’s name didn’t really click for me until I saw that it was directed by Tomohiko Deguchi, the director of Grand Knights History — a title that sadly never saw the Western shore. Some of you might better recognize him from an earlier game that he worked on: Muramasa: The Demon Blade.

Mr. Deguchi has taken all the things he learned from those games and put them together into this grand tale. You’ll be traversing the continent of Resonail as the leader of a mercenary group. Along the way, you’ll discover the complex history behind the fall of the Uldein Empire, hire new members to build up your mercenary crew, and spend time fighting under contract for each of four unique countries using an interesting team-building and tactical combat system.

Tactical Triumph

Now, I’m a [粗俗词语过滤-#0003]er for pretty much any RPG where I get to train characters and gather cool equipment, but the tactical combat system of Grand Kingdom makes it stand out from the rest. You’ll be fighting on lane-based 2D levels where each unit acts in turn, but their turns play out as real-time movement limited by an Action Gauge similar to Valkyria Chronicles.

Since each mercenary has their own character class which defines their base stats and the type of attacks they can use, you’ll need to be careful not only about how you use your mercenaries, but also about which mercenaries you pair together. (Hint: a team of all Gunners doesn’t fare so well…)

Each class has their own special skills that are pretty awesome to see. For example, the Dragon Mage’s spells and her fierce-looking dragon’s fiery breath make full use of the game’s gorgeous art and fluid animations to deliver the wild thrill of a screen-filling attack and the smug satisfaction of a perfectly executed tactical decision.

A True Work of Art

I mean, seriously. I am abso-positively in love with this game’s art. We were so excited about the art that one of our designers decided we just had to make a limited edition for Grand Kingdom. He went all-out and compiled a brand-new 128-page art book chock-full of everything from final character art to production sketches and notes.

Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator Europe Release is Same Week as NA, PQube Announce

Europe always gets Arc System Works’ games ages after everyone else, right? Well, it seems like that’s true no longer! PQube have managed to somehow pull a Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator Europe release the same week as North America out of their hat. It will release 10th June 2016, the same week as NA, just a few weeks after Japan.

It’s fair to say that after Guilty Gear Xrd Sign‘s strange European release many fans weren’t sure what to expect with Revelator in Europe. But, after PQube handled BlazBlue: Chronophantasma Extend‘s European release (another ASW title that had been absent from Europe) many began to think PQube could be doing Guilty Gear too. Turns out they were right!







What most people didn’t expect was how soon the European release would be coming. Generally European fans have had to wait for a while for it to go from Japan to America, and then even longer to get it over here. Now it seems that the North American and European versions of Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator will be launching in the same week, and just a few short weeks after the Japanese release (we’re not quite sure when this will be, but it seems like it could be some time in May, possibly late May).

Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator is the next version of Guilty Gear Xrd after the very well received Guilty Gear Xrd Sign, though the European release was frustratingly missing several key patches. Sign revamped Guilty Gear into 3D, but at the same time kept the celebrated 2D stylings that the series was well known for, not sacrificing, but actually improving, its look in the transition.







Revelator introduces 6 new characters, a new gameplay type (Stylish Type), a new online lobby, new story, and even more bits and bobs. It’s far from being a simple shove it out the door enhancement. This is more a refinement, building upon the success of the original.

Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator is certainly coming to Europe pretty hard. It’s a great step forward to seeing Japanese companies making a real move to shorten the gap between their regional releases, especially for a game as competitive as this one. Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator will be part of EVO 2016’s line up.

Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator will be releasing for PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 3 in Europe on 10th June 2016.
