The Wall Street Journal: Animal Crossing mobile & Fire Emblem mobile both F2P
Nintendo to Make Next Two Mobile Games Free
Nintendo’s next two smartphone games will be free to download, the company’s partner said on Wednesday, increasing the likelihood that long-loved console game titles will rank high even in fiercely competitive app stores.
Tokyo-based DeNA, which develops and runs its own smartphone games, teamed up with Nintendo, the Kyoto-based videogame powerhouse, last year for the joint project. They released their first title, Miitomo, earlier this year, and are expected to produce four more by March 2017.
Nintendo said last month that the next two titles for devices running Apple’s iOS and Google-parent Alphabet Inc.’s Android software would be rolled out by the coming autumn. They are role-playing franchise Fire Emblem and community simulation Animal Crossing, both long-running popular game series from the company most known for Mario the plumber and the Legend of Zelda.
“Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are both free-to-start apps,” DeNA Chief Executive Isao Moriyasu told The Wall Street Journal. A Nintendo spokeswoman confirmed Mr. Moriyasu’s comment.
Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima last month declined to make clear how the company plans to earn revenue from the two new titles, and analysts were divided whether Fire Emblem, a game with a vast and dedicated fan base, would adopt free-to-play style.
2DS price dropped to $79, Disney Magical World 2 and Style Savvy 3 coming to NA
Nintendo 2DS System Drops to New Low Suggested Price of $79.99
The entry point to Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS games and franchises has never been more affordable. On May 20, Nintendo will lower the price of its kid-friendly portable Nintendo 2DS system to a suggested retail price of $79.99, a remarkable savings from the previous suggested retail price of $99.99. Some systems even come pre-installed with the universally popular Mario Kart 7 racing game, making the new value price even more appealing for parents who are looking for an entry-level gaming system for their young gamers.
Nintendo 2DS launched in October 2013 and is part of the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. The system comes with fun built-in entertainment options and applications to take photos and videos, plus wireless access to Nintendo eShop for those with Internet access. The unique design is built to make it easy for smaller hands to hold. The system includes two screens (including a touch screen) and plays Nintendo 3DS games, plus nearly all Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games in 2D. For details about Nintendo 2DS, visit nintendo.com/2ds.
“Nintendo 2DS is the best value available for a portable dedicated gaming system and is great for gaming on the go,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “The system has a library full of high-quality games for purchase, some in our Nintendo Selects category for less than $20 each, featuring Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi and Zelda.”
Kids can soon check out the new game in the Kirby series, Kirby: Planet Robobot, which launches June 10, as well as two new kid-friendly games coming later this year: Style Savvy: Fashion Forward and Disney Magical World 2.
Style Savvy: Fashion Forward, the third game in the Style Savvy series, gives players a sense of accomplishment by putting them in charge of one of five exciting professions. Players can immerse themselves in a world of fashion by owning a boutique, designing clothes, styling hair, applying makeup or becoming a model. When players make themselves look good, customers who visit their boutiques might start adopting the player’s style. The game includes over 19,000 different articles of clothing, items and accessories to choose from. Players can also learn real-world fashion tips from the Fashion 101 guide. To access Nintendo character-themed clothing and accessories in the game, players can tap select amiibo figures to a Nintendo 2DS, Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL system using the Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer accessory to trigger an event. Once the event is completed, players can get the special items. The amiibo and Reader/Writer accessory are sold separately. The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systems feature a built-in NFC reader for amiibo. Style Savvy: Fashion Forward launches Aug. 19.
Disney Magical World 2, the follow up to the popular franchise, lets players enjoy a variety of new adventures in six Disney-themed worlds, such as exploring the world of Disney Frozen, dancing with Disney princesses or soaring through special Magical Dream events. Players will encounter and interact with well-known characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Ariel, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck. The game launches Oct. 14.
In the meantime, the Nintendo 3DS family of systems has a library of great exclusive games for every type of player, including New Super Mario Bros. 2, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. Some of Nintendo’s other big hits in the Nintendo Selects category are also available for a suggested retail price of only $19.99 each. The Nintendo Selects line includes great games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Mario Party: Island Tour and Yoshi’s New Island.
Yo-kai Watch 2 Launches September 30 in North America
The Yo-kai Invasion Continues! Yo-kai Watch 2 Launches in the U.S. on Sept. 30
The Yo-kai phenomenon continues in 2016. The U.S. has seen the launches of the Yo-kai Watch video game for Nintendo 3DS, a line of Hasbro toys and games, a top-rated animated series that airs on Disney XD and the mobile game sensation Yo-kai Watch Wibble Wobble all in the last six months. The world of Yo-kai continues to grow as new video games, toys and shows make their way stateside this year.
All things Yo-kai continue on Sept. 30 when Yo-kai Watch 2 launches in the U.S. exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Already a huge hit in Japan, the sequel to the first smash hit, which is once again developed by Level-5, offers the same deep RPG gameplay and wacky adventures as the first game. The new adventure also offers many new areas to explore outside of Springdale, more than 100 new Yo-kai, a new-and-improved in-game Yo-kai Watch and even the ability to travel back in time! Yo-kai Watch 2 will also launch with two versions, Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Yo-kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls, each featuring rare Yo-kai that can only be found in their respective games.
“After being such a massive sensation in Japan, it’s great to see the U.S. start to embrace the mischievous and lovable Yo-kai,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “We’re excited to continue bringing fun Yo-kai experiences stateside this year.”
To expand the Yo-kai brand, Hasbro will add new items to its Yo-kai Watch line this fall. New toys include the Yo-kai Watch Moderl Zero, designed to look like the watch worn by Nate in Season 2 of the animated series. The watch includes Yp-Motion Technology that brings Yo-kai characters to life in a new way. Fans can insert a Yo-Motion Yo-Kai Medal into the watch and see a projected animation of that character. Hasbro will also release a new series of collectible Yo-Motion Yo-Kai Medals, which are compatible with the new watch, as well as custom Yo-kai Watch accessories, large plush toys and electronic figures. Additionally, fans will be able to collect and trade their favorite Yo-kai Watch characters in a new way with the Yo-kai Watch Trading Card Game.
Disney XD has acquired a second season of the Yo-kai Watch animated TV show, which will premiere this summer. This season, join Nate, Whisper and Jibanyan as they get the new Yo-kai Watch Model Zero. But just because he has a new watch, that doesn’t mean Nate’s life will get any easier. Season 2 has more Yo-kai, more miniseries, more episodes and, most importantly, more laughs! Tune in to see how a new cast of Yo-kai interrupts Nate’s normal life in unexpected and hilarious ways. Fans who missed the first season can catch up before the second season starts by picking up the DVD of Yo-kai Watch – Season 1 in stores late 2016 or by streaming the show on Netflix now. Fans can also catch the Yo-kai Watch manga series from VIZ Media (Volume 5 debuts this month).
Finally, all of your favorite Yo-kai have wobbled into a hit mobile app called Yo-kai Watch Wibble Wobble. This Top Ten app on the iTunes store brings the fun of Yo-kai characters into smart devices with a puzzle-game twist. With new events coming monthly, this game will continue to grow bigger and better.
The original Yo-kai Watch video game introduced people in the U.S. to the mysterious Yo-kai. In Japan, these invisible beings – not ghosts or spirits… just Yo-kai! – are steeped in folklore and based on common concerns that everyday citizens have. If a child misplaces homework or an adult can’t stop babbling at a work meeting, for instance, it’s probably the work of a troublesome Yo-kai.

Natsume Grows the Harvest Moon Universe with Harvest Moon: Skytree Village!
Natsume, a worldwide developer and publisher of family-oriented video games, unveiled today Harvest Moon: Skytree Village, an all-new Harvest Moon title for the Nintendo 3DS! Harvest Moon: Skytree Village will be one of several Natsume titles playable at E3 2016, taking place June 14th – 16th 2016 in Los Angeles, South Hall booth #513.
“After the evolutionary Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley and a successful jaunt to mobile platforms with Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories, we are really excited to share everything we have learned with our fans,” said Hiro Maekawa, President and CEO of Natsume. “Our community is very important to us, and their feedback and input has been taken into account a great deal in the development of Harvest Moon: Skytree Village! We hope they will see and feel their contribution in this new game!”
Times have changed in the land known as the Oasis of the Harvest Goddess. Many people used to live in Skytree Village, and the land was lush and green. However, the power of the Harvest Goddess gradually began to wane, and the land became parched and dry.
It’s up to you revive the seven Skytrees in order to give the Harvest Goddess her power back, and, in turn, bring life back to this desolate land!
“We’ve revisited each and every part of what makes a Harvest Moon game, and are excited at the end result,” said Taka Maekawa, Producer of the Harvest Moon series. “We are looking forward to seeing players try the game during E3 2016.”
Along the way, players will meet a new cast of characters (with a few returning faces!), alongside a brand new art style, new character models, and more.
With user-friendly tutorials, players will immediately be able to jump into the thick of things, customizing their farm by raising and lowering the land, creating rivers, ponds, and more. Upgraded tools will assist farmers in shaping the land more efficiently, and afterwards they can kick back and relax in their boat to do a spot of fishing! It won’t be long before they’ll need to weigh anchor to care for their newest herd animal: the Poitou donkey!
Key Features
• Play as a boy or a girl, woo bachelorettes and bachelors, and start a family!
• Completely new story with tons of interesting new characters.
