The best teacher is actually yourself
I'm not from an English educated family and I study in both Chinese elementary & high school
Other than that, I don't usually use English in my daily life,
well, I mean I conversate with my parents and friends mostly in Chinese
I'd only switch to English unless it's formal conversation such as having conversation with lecturers or superior
You mentioned that your mum thinks going for English tutorial is a waste
I have to agree with that...
I used to go for English tutorial during secondary school
Undeniably, going for tuition can help you improve your English language such as the usage of present, past, past participle tenses
Somehow, for me, it's kinda formulate
It's more like teaching you ways of memorizing the language and I personally don't like it real much
I have some ways for you to learn the language easier
First, you can try watching their movies and learn from it
I'd switch the subtitle to English and see the phrases when the characters speak
Next, listening to English songs is also a way of getting it done
Back then, I started listening to English songs and searching out vocabularies that I don't understand with dictionary
Then I'd spend time memorizing these vocab and phrases so I can use them in my essays
Other than that, you have to get used to reading English materials
If your family does subscribe to English newspaper, take time to read through oftenly but you can always visit English based sites or forums too
Lastly, have the courage to speak up in English
Having conversation in English with people who has better knowledge with the language is good because they can correct mistakes that we done
So basically there's only 4 ways of getting it done
WATCH and LISTEN then READ and SPEAK
Hope it helps you |
