Independent publisher Grey Box has issued a call to battle stations today, announcing it is working with Berlin-based studio Yager to create Dreadnought, an aerial armada action game for PC. Set in a futuristic era of war and refuge, players will take on the role of a mercenary spaceship captain who owes allegiance to no nation, fighting for glory amidst a galaxy of chaos.
“Dreadnought harkens back to the PC space combat game we developed when we first started out,” explained Mathias Wiese, Art Director and Co-Founder at Yager. “In the years since, we’ve been developing and testing some incredible ideas that now perfectly come together in Dreadnought. Grey Box has been an amazing partner and we’re incredibly thankful they share our vision for what Dreadnought will become.”
Battleships in Dreadnought are massive spacecraft that come in varied shapes and classes. Commanders will assume complete control, dedicating power to specific sub-systems, customizing weapons, engines, armor, abilities, crew and their ships’ aesthetics, all while collaborating with the development teams to help determine what comes next.
“We all have that dream of sitting in the Captain’s Chair,” noted Tony Medrano, Creative Director at Grey Box. “It’s an awesome feeling to control something so huge and powerful, and that feeling is present in Dreadnought. Our goal is to nurture that feeling at all costs by working with players to fulfill the creation of their dream armada. With the game announced, that feedback starts now. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Dreadnought is powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) technology and is set to enter public testing in early 2015. For more information, please visit playdreadnought.com , like the game on Facebook, and follow it on Twitter.
Today Grey Box, Six Foot, and developer Yager announced that sign-ups for the upcoming PC closed beta of Dreadnought, their team-based space-action game, have begun. Those interested in joining Dreadnought’s first fleet of beta testers can visit playdreadnought.com to register.
In addition, Dreadnought will be playable to the European public for the very first time at gamescom this week. Attendees can experience the game’s 5v5 Team Deathmatch mode across two maps and chat with members of YAGER’s development crew on the show floor at Stand C020 in Hall 8.1.
Set in a futuristic era of galactic strife, Dreadnought puts players in command of massive capital ships for all-out tactical action warfare in space and across the skies of distant worlds. Battleships come in a variety of shapes and sizes, each specialized to bring a unique, class-based role to the squad. These vessels can be customized even further with powerful armaments, abilities, perks, and a large variety of visual enhancements. The free-to-play game will feature competitive and cooperative online multiplayer modes, as well as a single-player campaign.

Dreadnought Playable for Attendees at Gamescom 2016
Grey Box, Six Foot and developer Yager have announced that Dreadnought, the highly anticipated class-based space-action game, will be playable at gamescom next week. Currently in closed beta on Windows PC, attendees can experience the game’s 5v5 Team Deathmatch mode on an all-new map, Red Sands, and chat with members of Yager’s development team on the show floor at Stand B31 in Hall 8 in a booth modeled after a Monarch-class Heavy Dreadnought.
Dreadnought is constantly evolving, and as such, the team is excited to reveal that an all-new game mode, Onslaught, will be coming to the online multiplayer game later this year. Onslaught Mode lends a new dimension to the game’s established, tactical 5v5 combat with epic, 8v8 battles. It adds small and midsize AI-controlled ships to the mix that players can destroy for points. Onslaught Mode will be playable for the very first time behind closed doors for media at gamescom.
Additionally, the developers are hard at work revamping Dreadnought’s in-game progression system based on player feedback. A major update coming this fall streamlines the process of acquiring ships, modules and customization options to match players’ unique play styles with new tech trees and ship manufacturing tiers. More information on progression changes and the future of the game will be available from the developers at the show.
Dreadnought puts players in command of massive capital ships for heart-pounding tactical warfare in space and across the skies of different planets. As mercenary captains armed with earth-shattering weapons and unique strategic and support abilities, players must work together to outsmart and outgun the enemy team and reap the rewards of battle. Powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) technology, Dreadnought lets players feel the full weight and power of each warship in beautiful detail. It will launch in the future as a free-to-play title on PC.
